The Advisory Council is made up of at least 7, but no more than 11 members. This includes 2 members appointed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), who have relevant scientific expertise. The remaining members all have a general background in air quality and business practices, are residents of the State of Texas, and are from geographically diverse areas of the state.
The Advisory Council determines funding of the air quality program by approving a budget for the disposition of funds across the research projects selected for funding. The primary responsibilities of the Advisory Council are:
- To attend meetings with TCEQ management and The University of Texas at Austin to understand the statewide project goals for the funding period,
- To review the combined list of projects reviewed and ranked based on technical merit by the Independent Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC) and based on relevancy to the air quality needs of Texas by the TCEQ, and
- To assist The University of Texas at Austin in presenting the projects’ final results at locations throughout the state.
